Queer Film “Mysterious Gaze Of The Flamingo” Wins Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes

According to cinemadrame news agency, the drama “The Mysterious Gaze Of The Flamingo,” directed by Chilean Diego Céspedes, won the Best Film award in the Un Certain Regard section at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.

The film tells the story of 12-year-old Lidia in the 1980s, who lives with two gay men in a mining town in northern Chile. When a deadly illness spreads through the town, and rumors circulate that the disease is transmitted by two men falling in love, Lidia must discover whether this claim is true or not.

The Colombian film “A Poet,” directed by Simone Mesa Soto, won the “Jury Prize.” Soto’s second feature film is about a poet whose songwriting hasn’t brought him fame, leading him to succumb to clichés.

The queer film “Pillion,” starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, won in the Best Screenplay category, and the Palestinian film “Once Upon a Time in Gaza,” by Arab Nasser and Tarzan Nasser, won for Best Director. Acting awards were given to Cléo Diarra for “I Only Rest in the Storm” and Frank Dillane for “Urchin.”
